Steady on! What’s all this about?
Ayup Bikes is the brainchild of a bunch of cyclists in Derby. By cyclists, we don’t just mean the Lycra-clad, clip-clopping pensioner type (though we’ve got a few), but a collective with a passion for two wheels. We’ve got grocery-getters, commuters, bikepackers, tourers, racers, the weekend cyclists, the midnight nutters. Our members have a cocktail of backgrounds. And even if the ex-Rolls-Royce boys outnumber us commoners, we all have something in common: we hate waste, love Derby, and ride bikes.
With the recent closure of LifeCycle Derby, a massive hole is left in the cycling community. We know lots of people rely on the services that a community bike shop provides, so we took it upon ourselves to start our own project. By Derby, for Derby.
We are a co-operative, which means our members have equal say in how we are run. One person, one vote. We think the values of transparency, democracy, and accountability are missing in the world. Our lovely home, Derby, was once the industrial heart of the co-operative movement that upheld these proper values. We want to honour this heritage by running a project that is fair, just, and honest.
So, if you’re passionate about Derby, and want to support our project, then visit our How To Help page!
